Our Patron Saint
St. Clare of Assisi (1194 - 1253) was an Italian woman renowned for her holiness and wisdom, and was one of the first followers of St. Francis of Assisi. At the age of 18, she left a life of wealth and luxury to join Francis and become the first Franciscan woman. She embraced Francis' way of living the Gospel, in radical poverty, simplicity, and joy. She founded the Order of Poor Clares, the monastic branch of the Franciscan Order, enabling other women to respond to the Franciscan charism. Today, there are Poor Clare nuns in 75 countries worldwide, embracing a way of life that has endured for over 800 years.
St. Clare is the patron saint of television and those suffering from eye disease. Her feast day is celebrated on August 11th. St. Clare, pray for us!
"We become what we love, and who we love shapes what we become." (St. Clare)
